concretus: Hi there! I saw that you were accepted into the Hamilton College Class of 2017. I have decided to apply to the Class of 2018, and wanted to know if you had any recommendations or advice with the application process? Any information would be extremely generous, and I truly would appreciate it.

(Wow I’m surprised the admissions office isn’t paying me for this at this point.)

First of all, try to enjoy the college process. It can be stressful as hell, but when you’re visiting a beautiful school like Hamilton, just soak it all in and enjoy! With Hamilton specifically, my best advice would be to SHOW INTEREST. A small, selective school probably won’t accept you if you don’t show them that you really want to be there. Do your homework: visit campus, scour the internet (the school’s website, College Board, College Prowler, etc.), and reach out to your regional admissions officer + other members of the community. If you want to go the extra mile, try to make connections with alumni who could potentially write on your behalf. Above all, show the school who you are and show them that you really want to be there. I know for sure that I would not have been accepted had I not shown the interest and enthusiasm that I did in my essay, interview, etc. Bonus sage wisdom: don’t overload yourself with commitments during your senior year. Enjoy yourself and make time for you! Don’t end up like me with projects to finish and committees to serve on right up until the end of the year.

Best of luck with the college process and senior year!
